Burlington, a lively college town, is the largest city in Vermont and the site each September of Vermont Gay Pride. Although Burlington has no exclusively gay bars, a number of hangouts in this small, progressive city as well as a few spots in the surrounding region (Middlebury, Stowe - which hosts Winter Rendezvous Gay Ski Week each January, and Waterbury) have a following with the region's sizable LGBT community. Meanwhile, at Piecasso in the resort town of Stowe, Vermont, kids have an extensive menu to choose from. Their pasta is a top seller, with most sales coming from spaghetti, penne or fettuccini with butter. Others try the pasta with marinara, pesto cream — with nut-free pesto, heavy cream and penne noodles — or Alfredo sauce. Another best seller is the kids’ pizza, which comes with cheese and one topping of the child’s choice — often pepperoni. The kids’ menu also includes items like a mixed green salad for $4 (and an add-on of all-natural grilled chicken for $3), a local all-natural grass-fed six-ounce beef hamburger or cheeseburger, with hand cut fries, side salad or steamed broccoli for $6.50, and house-made lemon-garlic hummus with vegetables for $5. At intervals throughout the year, George Spraker, Piecasso’s GM, says they promote the kids’ menu through offering free pizza or pasta nights, which reminds guests of their kids’ menu, and shows gratitude to the local community for sustaining them during the resort’s off-season. Besides the menu, attractions for kids at Piecasso include a small arcade, oversized neon-colored crayons and coloring page. Due to its kid-friendly environment and menu, kids on vacation often frequent the restaurant with their parents during their stay. “If you’re operating a place that makes kids happy when they come there, I think it really creates a no-brainer decision for the parents,” expresses Spraker.

FROZEN PIPES CAUSE FLOODING...
Piecasso suffers water damage from leaky pipe. When it snows it pours... well, that was the case early Monday morning at Piecasso anyway. A pipe for the fire suppression system burst overnight raining water into the east dining room left of the kitchen. Fortunately, the kitchen and the bar were undamaged and will remain open. Sadly, the dining room will require additional cleaning and remodeling. We will have the entire restaurant open again just as soon as it is possible; we have no solid date for this as of Monday (2/2/15). We will continue to offer seating in the bar area for our guests, as well as takeout and delivery during this setback. Additional, our Wednesday night Trivia will be suspended for the next 3 weeks and will resume on Wednesday, February 25. Thank you.

Piecasso Pizzeria & Lounge in Stowe, Vermont, sells 190 to 200 dozen wings a week and more than 50 percent of orders are not Buffalo sauced. “We keep it simple,” Chef Jonathan Nelson says. Piecasso offers five wing sauces — Spicy Hot Buffalo, Teriyaki, Chipotle Barbecue, Spicy Brown Sugar Rub and Baby Rays BBQ. Limiting the sauces allows the pizzeria to sell $1 wings, he adds, while still having variety.
